大正から昭和初期にかけて、日本では着物の「洋風化」「モダン化」と呼べる現象が起こった。本研究は、この現象を手がかりとして、着物文化の一側面を明らかにしようとするものである。まず、着物の柄をめぐる東西のデザインの交流がどのようなものであったのか、現在国内外の美術館・博物館で所蔵されている、大正・昭和期の日本で製作されたモダンな柄の着物の現物を調査することで明らかにした。さらに、婦人雑誌メディアはその新しい潮流をどう紹介し、日本の着用者は、そのようなこれまでとは異なる着物の美をいかに受容したかについて、『婦人倶楽部』『婦女界』の調査を元に考察した。また、百貨店はそれらをどのように一般の消費者に供給したのかを、三越百貨店の事例を中心として、明らかにした。 |

During the 1920s and 1930s, Japan experienced the phenomenon of kimono Westernization or modernization. Drawing on the study of actual kimono examples with modernized patterns which were made in 1920s and 1930s Japan and stored in Japanese and British museums, as well as magazine records and the archives of department stores such as Mitsukoshi, the project explored this little-known aspect of Japanese kimono history. Each researcher explored the following points: ①The mutual influence of Japanese and Western design on kimonos. ②How Japanese women’s magazines, such as Fujin Club and Fujokai, introduced the new trend in 'traditional' kimonos; how women in Japan received the development and adopted the different standards of beauty regarding kimonos. ③How department stores offered the different styles to the general public. |
