This thesis is about the look in the funeral ceremony in Japan, China, India, Islam and Europe all part area. As the result, that white is the color which concerns a funeral ceremony deeply in which area did it become clear. For white in a Japanese funeral ceremony, a Shinto ritual and a funeral fact are telling the ancient tradition of same root. White was god-like and the spiritual color. White of burial clothes and a mourning dress in China is the color of the root of a matter and also is the color to which the end everything is sent. White in India means purity and cleanliness. White in Islam is the color Allah likes most, symbolizing heaven which beams. White in Catholic shows a hope of a rebirth. Thus the white meaning in the funeral ceremony seems different depending on countries and religions. But the common point we think white is the color with the light in the area besides India. |

日本・中国・インド・トルコ・フランスの各国での葬礼における装いを調査した結果、いずれの地域においても白が葬礼と深く関わる色であることが明確になった。日本の葬礼の白は、神事と葬事が同根であった古代の伝統を伝えたものであって、白は神霊な色であり、中国の死装束や喪服の白は、物の根源の色であり、物事の最後を送る色であった。インドの葬礼と関わる白は浄性や清潔を意味したもので、イスラームの死装束の白はアッラーが最も好む色であり光り輝く天国を象徴している。カソリック教における白は復活の希望を表す色である。このように一見国や宗教により葬礼における白の意味は異なるようにみえるが、実はインド以外の地域では白は光と関わりがある色との共通点がみられる。 |
