One of the features of French fashion at the start of the 20th century was the liberation of the female body from the restrictions imposed by the corset. This development was closely related to the contemporary fashion for exoticism and to the growing status of women in society. This joint research is concerned with middle-class women and is based on a study of the full-sized and reduced-sized patterns that appeared in magazines and an examination of changes in physique and costume configurations based on analysis of the human body, with the aim of exploring the relationship between costume and fashion at the time |
