Five kinds of clothing patterns were selected from the designs of Japonism in western costumes for the evaluation by multivariate analysis. Sixty -six female college students were used as The subjects to get their responses by five ranking to evaluate 21 terms. The principal component analysis were carried out to obtain principal components and component scores under the condition of varimax rotation. The main principal components to evaluate the designs of Japonism in western costumes were determined as follows: The first is whether it is decorative of simple, the second is whether it is traditional or modern and the third is whether it is familiar or not. Moreover, individual recognition of the subjects were examined through their component scores. For the characteristics of costume design, the evaluations of subjects were observed to be convergent or disperse. This study offers the example that the evaluation will be changed through information transmission and will have common recognitions. |
