相次いで建てられ、建築界を賑わした時代に竣工した。その先駆例は、文化服装学院の前年に竣工した「山崎学園富士見中学・高等学校」であった。富士見中学・高等学校は、坂本鹿名夫の設計による。坂本は以降、数多くの円形校舎を手掛けた。しかし、「文化服装学院円型校舎」は坂本の手によるものではなく、三菱地所の杉山雅 則の設計である。本稿では、坂本による円形校舎と「文化服装学院円型校舎」の形態構成と空間構造を比較する ことにより、その共通点および差異を検証した。その結果、「文化服装学院円型校舎」は、坂本鹿名夫による実 用新案である円形校舎がつくられた時期に、坂本の承認を得て、坂本の考案した円形校舎の利点を取り入れなが ら計画されたものであることが明らかとなった。また、坂本による一連の円形校舎が経済性を追究し、合理性を満たすことを目的とした建築であったのに対し、「文化服装学院円型校舎」は仕上げや設備を高級に設えた象徴
