By demonstrating how these souvenirs and exports crossed national as well as cultural boundaries in many ways, this paper intends to propose a new theoretical framework to study material culture in the twentieth century. That is the framework to focus on international tourists as active agents--how historically and socio-culturally conditioned agents formed and circulated their cultural babble across certain regions, and how that circulation contributed to cultural production, i.e., kimono culture in the twentieth century in this case.\nAs a case study, the paper takes American GIs, who grew up in the early twentieth century and were later dispatched to the Asian-Pacific region, including Hawaiʻi where the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Fleet was located, and Japan after WWII. The paper first elucidates what kind of cross-cultural experience and understanding the GIs had with “Japanese goods” before being dispatched. Then, following their move, the paper examines aloha shirts in Hawaiʻi, and suka-jan and happy coats in Japan, each of which I summarize here.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_8_description_5":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"[2009~2011年度 文部科学省委託 服飾文化共同研究拠点事業報告]","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_8_relation_50":{"attribute_name":"部分である","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_type":"isPartOf","subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"http://hdl.handle.net/10457/2026","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}}]},"item_8_subject_17":{"attribute_name":"日本十進分類法","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"593.1","subitem_subject_scheme":"NDC"}]},"item_8_text_39":{"attribute_name":"その他の寄与者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"[立命館大学衣笠総合研究機構, 服飾文化共同研究拠点、文化ファッション研究機構、文化学園大学]"}]},"item_8_text_6":{"attribute_name":"引用","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"[服飾文化共同研究最終報告] 2011 (2012-03) pp.49-52"}]},"item_8_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Suzuki, Keiko"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2020-06-23"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"011080211_17.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"125.5 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"011080211_17.pdf","url":"https://bunka.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/1982/files/011080211_17.pdf"},"version_id":"76c8a6e3-7fb4-437d-9d22-870c5ba50a0e"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"research report","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_18ws"}]},"item_title":"Selling “Japan” to the West: Kimono Culture in the Twentieth Century","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Selling “Japan” to the West: Kimono Culture in the Twentieth Century"}]},"item_type_id":"8","owner":"2","path":["185"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2013-07-04"},"publish_date":"2013-07-04","publish_status":"0","recid":"1982","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Selling “Japan” to the West: Kimono Culture in the Twentieth Century"],"weko_creator_id":"2","weko_shared_id":2},"updated":"2023-05-15T13:49:44.186805+00:00"}
