| 内容記述 | The Japanese word "kimono" is well-known in the West. The most important vector for this knowledge of the kimono was the trend of Japonism that emerged in the second half of the 19th century after Japanese ports were opened to the world. In order to study the influence of the kimono on Western culture in the context of Japonism, we conducted field surveys to confirm that kimonos from Japan were present in Europe. This was a period when Japanese goods were taken overseas in increasing numbers. International expositions in Europe and America introduced kimonos and other Japanese objects, interest in Japanese art and culture grew rapidly, and Western artists were inspired by Japanese art, in a movement that was called Japonism. Kimonos first won the admiration of artists, and before long, they attracted ordinary women too. Keen collectors emerged, and Western museums began to acquire kimonos and Japanese textiles. Our research shows that collectors were motivated by the objective of securing sources of design ideas as well as by the desire for works of art. In addition to its influence on art, Japonism had a significant influence on Western fashion, particularly Paris fashion. This has been corroborated by research such as that published in Akiko Fukai's Japonism in Fashion (1994, Heibonsha) and demonstrated by the Kyoto Costume Institute's exhibition Japonism et Mode (1994 in Kyoto, 1996 in Tokyo). In order to verify how kimono and Japanese textiles influenced the West, we conducted field studies from 2009 to 2011 to survey kimono and Japanese textile collections in museums in France, the UK, and Italy. Researchers were able to examine the collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and at Les Arts Décoratifs - Mode et Textile, and the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques Guimet in Paris in 2009, at the Museo d’Arte Orientale Ca’ Pesaro in Venice and at the Museo Pier Alessandro Garda e del Canavese in Ivrea in 2010, and at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow in 2011. Finally, a symposium, The Influence of Kimono: In the Background of Japonism, was held in Tokyo in November, 2011 to bring together the findings of the three years of surveys and provide an overall report on the research project. To complement our research, Dr. Ricard Bru, professor of the University of Barcelona, was invited to report on collections in Spain, which had not been covered by the research group. |

| 内容記述 | 「Kimono」という語は西欧においても広く認識されている。日本が鎖国を解き、世界に向けて開港した19世紀後半以来、着物（註1）を西欧に広げた最も重要なベクトルはジャポニスムである。これを踏まえ、我々の研究は、ジャポニスムとの関係性の中で日本の着物が西欧文化に与えた影響を研究するため、この時期に海外へ渡った着物の存在を確認するための現地調査である。 19世紀後半、様々な機会、様々な手段により、着物を含む多くの日本品が海外流出した。とりわけ欧米各地で開催された万国博覧会に日本の品が出展され、欧米で日本の芸術や文化への関心が急速に高まり、ジャポニスムと呼ばれる日本美術愛好熱の熱狂的な流行が興った。当初、当時の西欧の芸術家たちを魅了した着物は、やがて広く一般の女性の憧れとなる。熱心なコレクターも生まれ、欧米の美術館は着物及び日本染織品の収集を開始した。その主な目的は美術品として、また、デザイン源としてであったことも今回の調査で明らかになった。 ジャポニスムは芸術だけでなく、ファッション、とりわけパリ・ファッションにも影響を与えていたことは、既に深井晃子の『ジャポニスム イン ファッション』（平凡社 1994）や京都服飾文化研究財団による「モードのジャポニスム」展（京都：1994、東京：1996）などによって明らかにされている。 このように着物及び日本染織品は西欧に影響を与えたが、その影響への根拠を立証するため、我々研究グループは2009年から2011年にかけて、フランス、イギリス、及びイタリアの美術館における着物及び日本染織品の調査を実施した。現物調査を実施した館は、2009年にロンドンのヴィクトリア・アンド・アルバート美術館、パリのフランス国立衣装テキスタイル美術館及びギメ美術館、2010年にイタリアのヴェネツィア東洋美術館及びイブレア市立ガルダ美術館、2011年に、イギリスのスコットランド国立博物館及びグラスゴー市立ケルヴィングローブ美術館である。 また、2011年11月、3年間の調査の統括として、シンポジウム「KIMONOの影響力：ジャポニスムを背景として」を開催し、研究の統括とした。なお、本共同研究において調査を実施できなかったスペインの状況については、バルセロナ大学教授のリカル・ブル氏を招聘し、本共同研究の補完を行った。 |
