The development of electronic media such as the Internet and the acceleration of the production-distribution cycle have changed the way fast-fashion has been reported and transformed fashion as a whole. Thanks to IT and the World Wide Web, traditional ways of reporting and disseminating information are being replaced by newer, more progressive ones. Furthermore, in Japan, it has been reported for quite some time that the fashion magazine business has fallen on hard times. This study aims to clarify the problems facing fashion magazines and suggests areas for further research. After reviewing previous research and articles in trade journals in 2008, we held an international symposium titled in September 2009. This was intended to forge a common understanding between researchers and businesspeople about the problems presented by the changing fashion environment. The discussion was focused on the present state of fashion magazines and problems that need to be addressed. The expansion of the Internet has led to an unprecedented proliferation and diversification of information, and fashion media has been transformed into a multi-media system consisting of conventional print media, pictures and live events as well as new technological advances and innovations. Because the fast-developing and successful Chinese market has attracted attention in basic research and was much talked about at the symposium, we also researched Chinese fashion media. After doing basic research on its development process, we did on-the-spot research on Chinese fashion magazines in February 2010. It became evident through surveys of three major fashion magazines that the most important issue for contemporary Chinese fashion media, having progressed from its infancy to the age of multi-media in less than 20 years, is “Sinicization,” or the shedding of its image as an importer of values from the West and Japan. It was also concluded that much can be learned about fashion medba by closely following the Chinese system, as its young workers and companies take on new media innovations and challenges in the coming years. We began to make our findings public beginning in 2010 as follows: Poster presentation titled at the 24th International Costume Congress 2010 in Seoul in August 2010, a thesis titled in Journal Of Bunka Women’s University No.42, 2011, and a thesis titled in Annual Journal of Studies: The Society for Fashion Business Vol.16, 2011 (in printing). study","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"},{"subitem_description":"ファッションとメディアは切っても切れない関係にあるが、近年の大きな社会変化の影響はファッションの環境や構造を大きく変貌させている。メディアは「紙媒体」依存からの脱皮を余儀なくされており、ファッションとメディアとの関係も、従来モデルから大きく変化しつつある。本研究では、そうしたファッション環境変化の現状とその変化に適応しようとしているファッション・メディアの課題とを把握するために、研究者とファッション・メディア編集の実務者双方の観点から問題を提出し、それらを総合してファッションとメディアとの関係付置を整理して、メディアの現場が抱える問題と、メディア研究が今後目指していく課題とを明確化しようという試みである。先行研究や業界誌における議論を分析・検討する基礎調査を経て、2009年9月に<ファッションとメディアを考える>シンポジウムを企画開催した。これは、ファッション環境変化の現状とそれに適応しようとしているメディアの課題を、研究者と実務者双方の観点からの問題提起と共同討議を通じて、実務と研究の相互理解を促進して共通認識を形づくることを目的とした。ここでの議論は、ウェブ環境の進展に伴ってファッション・メディアが置かれている現状と課題が中心となった。研究者側からは、変化するファッション・システムがもたらす消費者主体のファッション創造に注目し、ファッション研究もそうした変化に適応していく必要性が指摘された。一方、実務者からは、情報の加速化・多様化の時代であるからこそ、アナログ感覚の紙媒体の重要性が指摘された。基礎調査とシンポジウムにおける議論の中で浮上したのが、中国市場の急速発展・活況への関心である。ファッションとメディアの発展プロセスの研究において、最重要なケーススタディとして中国のファッション誌についての研究を行い、2010年2-3月にその現況に関する現地調査を行った。近代的ファッション・メディアの誕生からマルチメディア化までのプロセスを、日本系や欧米系提携誌が牽引役として、1990年代以降の20年弱の短期間で疾走してきた中国のファッション・メディアにおける現在の最大の課題は、美意識や価値観の輸入から「本土化」にあることが、編集者への聞き取り調査を通じて明らかになり、また、若いスタッフと新しい企業体によって運営されている中国ファッション・メディアにおいては新しいメディア環境への対応もダイナミックに進んでおり,ファッション・メディアの新しいシステム構築における先行的事例としてその展開に注目していく必要があることも明らかになった。研究成果の一部は、第24回国際服飾学術会議(於:ソウル)におけるポスター発表「A Study on Fashion Magazines Today: issues and prospects」(2010)や『ファッションビジネス学会論文誌
