The research was conducted from three different viewpoints, namely from cultural history, design history, and economic history. Outcome and observations: The Women’s World edited by Oscar Wilde, periodicals and magazine edited by C. S. Peel, and the popular Victorian magazine Punch, have been the main focuses of our research. Oishi has been interpreting the representations of Haute Couture female fashions in them in contrast to the popular perception of ready-made clothes for women as represented in Punch. Suga, on the other hand, pays attention to the patterns attached to these fashion magazines, whose designs functioned as a bridge between Haute Couture fashions and popular ready-made clothes. C. S. Peel’s ideas and discourses indicate a crucial change of fashion consciousness among late-nineteenth-century women. Majima examined this change from a new viewpoint of economic history.
