Many foreigners are highly interested in Japanese culture. Therefore it is necessary to examine how to show and explain the traditional culture of Japan. With a diverse background concerning "Kimono" culture, the purpose of this research is to develop an educational program to teach a "Kimono" culture as a folklore and then to transmit the information to the world. We focused especially on "Yukata" and plan to develop an experiential type of education program including how to wear a "Yukata". We started developing the class practice at some junior high schools and high schools in Japan. This year we also started developing digital teaching materials (how to wear and how to fold "Yukata" for men and women) in Chinese version. Try-on-Yukata workshop was held as a pilot educational program to transmit Kimono culture, one part of the traditional cultures of Japan, to China (Shanghai) with about 40 young Chinese people in September, 2010 in cooperation with the Japanese consulate. At the beginning, we had a lecture about the Kimono culture with a local interpreter. The participants tried, with our help, to put on Yukata after watching a DVD showing how to put them on. We carried out a survey about (1) interest in modern and traditional Japanese culture before the workshop, (2) evaluation of DVD after watching, and (3) the feeling of wearing Yukata after the workshop. We also conducted Try-on-Yukata workshop as a pilot educational program to transmit Kimono culture to UK (Burton on Trent) with about 20 junior school students and 35 high school students at Blessed Robert Sutton School in October, 2010 with the co-researcher Mr. Zanker (PGCE/MSc Design and Technology Subject Leader of the Loughborough University in Britain) and Mrs. Stephens who is a teacher of that school. We carried out a similar survey for students in UK, too}, title = {「きもの」文化の伝承と発信のための教育プログラムの開発 : 「きもの」の着装を含む体験学習と海外への発信}, year = {2011} }
