In 2009, we mainly collected previous works in Japanese fashion studies and popular culture studies, and determined how documents and historical materials were collected. In addition, we conducted an interview with the City of Kobe to find out what the city was doing in connection with Japanese street fashion and pop culture.\nBy the analysis of these previous works, we learned that fashion study and pop culture study developed separately, and that the influence they had on each other is not clear. However, since World War II, both Japanese fashion and pop culture have played a part in forming people’s identity in society. At large, it wasn’t until after the 80's that they shared a mutually complementary relationship. Therefore, we focused on collecting historical materials mainly after the 80's.\nThe Japanese public sector offers support for many events relating to Japanese pop-culture fashion for the purpose of industrial promotion and regional development.
