Our research aim is to understand the costume culture of so called “coptic” textiles and how artifacts may be used to enhance education at a university level. In our second year of the project, we visited major museum collections and universities with “coptic” textile collection in Japan, US and UK. We examined costume related artifacts and discussed issues such as object access and educational programs with curators, conservators and educators. Another aspect of our research aim is to contribute to the factual understanding of materials and techniques of the textiles. Scientific analysis on dyes was carried out on selected items owned by the Joshibi University of Art and Design. Part of the project result was presented at two conferences |
